Who we are: Introduction
The name ‘Excel” is derived from one of its main subsidiaries – Excel Big Bulk Trading Sdn. Bhd. – which was formed in 2013 by Ms Charlene Chen and Mr Joe Tan.
This dynamic duo originally met as management trainees in Cheong Chan Sdn Bhd, the FMCG company for Campbell canned soup in Malaysia. Their entrepreneurial spirit progressed as they discovered unmet needs in the wholesale market. From there, they started their own trading company. In 2017, they changed this trading company to a “Sendirian Berhad” and they added new partners and acquired new subsidiary companies.

The most outstanding characteristics common to all in the Excel Group of companies are their resourcefulness and integrity.
At the same time, there are strengths that are unique to each company – for example KV Master is the master for wholesale to the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. Whilst Sky Plus specialises in the export market. The individual strengths are combined to complement other companies within the Excel group. For instance, when a client of a subsidiary suddenly needs a particular volume of stock of an FMCG brand, the sister companies within the Group are very agile and rallies to fulfil the orders with their own respective reserves.
The Group also demonstrates a dynamic ability to simplify the entire wholesale procurement process: for instance, all it takes is a WhatsApp message, and the order is processed and delivery will already be on the way.

The Excel Group’s companies are led by very dynamic people. Although the average age of the leading team is only 38 years – their common sense wisdom in the wholesale industry combined with their youthful enthusiasm & resourcefulness is immensely beneficial to all their clients.
The three main companies out of the eight under the Excel Group are Excel Big Bulk, KV Master and – Sky Plus. All their heads have hypermarket and supermarket experience so they understand the business well:

This down-to-earth dynamic duo started Excel as a home based business with a 2-person team in 2014 – and today the Group is a close-knit team of 100, achieving the total Excel Group turnover of RM220 million in 2021.
